"....I was impressed from the very beginning by the way teaching and learning was taking place. It couldn't be as easy and fun!"

Desi's story

Moving to the UK about a year and a half ago and starting to express myself in a different language (English) was quite a big challenge. It was really important to me not only to be understood but to be understood in the right way; something that seems to be easy but is actually not.

A friend of mine recommended the Cambridge SPEAK programme at CELS to me and I started to attend the course. I was impressed from the very beginning by the way teaching and learning was taking place. It couldn't be as easy and fun! And it is not only about the language, I got a lot of knowledge of British culture and the way of life.

By that time, I didn't have a lot of job interview experience and I was supposed to find a job. At that moment, CELS really helped me a lot. We had a lot of practical lessons on how to speak; to walk, to give a firm handshake, to greet and how to behave when you are at job interviews; and of course, how to answer all the questions that are going to be asked.

When I got my first interview I was a bit nervous, but I knew that I was prepared enough for it. And yes, I was successful and got my first job as a Lab Assistant. I was over the moon! I very recently passed my last job interview and I am now an Associate Scientist.

I have kept going to the CELS course and my English is becoming better and better every single day. I have already made a lot of friends there and I am still making more and becoming more social as well...
