"....my main problem was that I was simply scared to talk in English. The discussions helped me to develop my confidence in speaking."
My name is Laura. I am from Poland, and I started taking part in the Cambridge English Language Society "Speak to Communicate" programme in August 2016.
I have been attending the course for almost a year and I can say only good things about it. I liked the way the course was organised. We did not use any books during classes and we were not expected to write a lot. Instead, we were encouraged to talk as much as possible and I really believe it is a very good approach to teaching foreign languages.
I enjoyed the group discussions a lot. At the beginning of the course, my main problem was that I was simply scared to talk in English. The discussions helped me to develop my confidence in speaking. They were also a great opportunity to gain new knowledge about subjects such as politics, British culture, technology, and many others.
Practising job interviews, without any doubt, helped me a lot in my everyday life as I passed all my job interviews during the past year. Another success I had was getting accepted to Bangor University in Wales. I am at this moment a first year Psychology and Childhood and Youth Studies student.
All this would not be possible if I had not improved my English. The Cambridge English Language Society and the Cambridge SPEAK programme helped me a lot in doing so.
Another thing that I really liked was that during the course I felt like a member of a community, rather than only an anonymous student. During every session, we were given a 15-20 minutes break during which we could drink coffee, eat biscuits and chat with each other. It was a great opportunity to make friends and at the same time practise English.
I am strongly recommending the course to everybody; it does not matter how bad your English is or how shy you are in speaking; I do believe it is going to help every person who really wants to learn English. I am truly glad that I found this course, and I already miss attending the sessions.
